Yes friends, we are talking about the woman molestation incident on G. S. Road, on 9th July evening in Guwahati. When the woman came out from nearby bar after a birthday party, she was caught and very heinously physically molested by a group of people on the road. The incident continued for about half an hour or more, nobody came forward to save her & then there appeared a senior journalist, named Mukul Kalita who helped her to get rescued from the heartless animals in the appearance of human. The world has seen the video footage; the national media broadcasted the footage repeatedly apart from the local news channels. The news also published in all newspapers of local & national repute.

What we are doing?

Of course, this news has shocked every human and got due importance, this is not the first case that such kind of incident happened in Assam. Few years back a tribal woman named Laxmi Orang was tripped in daylight on road and also brutally beaten by a mob in Beltola area same in Guwahati. Lots of women are being raped and subsequently killed by security forces & militants not only in Assam but, in the whole North East region. Furthermore, in other cases some women are being harassed, raped or molested by single individual or a gang.

After this incident, we feel ashamed of saying that we are Assamese. Incidents happening one after another in Assam are worth enough to make us shameful to be said that we are Assamese.

If we keep aside some good works of some individual, like our writers, artists, sportspersons etc., the overall view about Assam in rest of the country & world is so poor. There are so many reasons to advocate in support of this aspect, which we will discuss later, deeply hurt our heart.

Whenever we go outside for travel or other purposes & meet with local people, almost 40-50 percent people have no and/or have vague idea even about the geographical location of Assam & its people. Secondly, the people who know where Assam is would ask you about militancy & bomb. The third group of people may be congratulating you for Assam Tea & that’s all. At last, a little percentage of people who related to Assam related to some particular subject, like business, literature, person related to folk culture, traveler etc. know little about Assam, its nature, culture etc. etc. So, this all is about Assam in the eyes of rest of the people of India itself and abroad & only the people who lived in Assam may have some different views. 

The publicity of this news.

The Assam & Assamese has been the victim of lot of causes. One of the main causes is the nature itself. After 1950’s great earthquake, the riverbed of mighty Brahmaputra has rose up & every year flood damage life & property in a great deal. Flood has become like national festival of Assam. Secondly, mostly during & after the great student agitation of Assam, human rights violation has been a common phenomena mainly by defense personals & in some cases militants in Assam & other North-Eastern states. Thirdly, after the militant groups showing up one after another, killing, extortion, bomb blast, kidnapping etc. have also become quite common in this region. Next, from some time economic crimes have been a matter of criticism in Assam. Lakh of rupees are being discovered in garage, bathroom, tank, car, rivers etc. Than the law & order situation of Assam has been a matter of subject in Assam which has been making the life of general people a hell.

It has been allegations to the national media that they are totally or mostly ignoring the burning problems of Assam & North-East India to the people of rest of India & world. For instance, when Assam faces flood and looses lives and properties for as much as ten time in a single rainy season in some year and two to three times each year, it does not become a national news but, if it happens in any other state other than Assam it becomes headlines and breaking news for all the prime print & electronic medias. When Laxmi Orang was stripped at Beltola, at that time and at this time also when Mausumi Sarma(her real name is different) molested at G. S. Road in Guwahati, all the national news channels have made these news as prime news, breaking news & repeated several times. It does not mean that this kind of news should not be broadcasted by national news channels, but doing that they should follow little ethics of journalism. They should not broadcast it unedited only for their TRP (target rating point). And also at the same time they should focus on the other burning issues of Assam along with it good thing like its beauty, culture, hospitality of people, natural resources etc. They should properly introduce Assam & Assamese to the rest of India & the world. Though these kinds of incidents spread negative message to the society and should be broad up to respective authority & general people but, it should not broadcast only to achieve TRP & if it is, it will be called yellow journalism.

What the administration is doing?      

What can we expect from a downtrodden administration; especially the police dept. is serving only as underlings of powerful minister or MLS’s. Year after year people have been observing their role in maintaining law and order situation in Assam. In Guwahati police force has been capable of nabbing some looters and car lifters. These are their great credentials. Other than these they earn nothing scores but a big zero.

Will the convicts get punishment?

Our past experiences say that we should not hope anything like that. Few days back even a congress MLA Rumi Nath was brutally manhandled by a mob in a hotel at Silchar and in two similar incidents 3 MLA's were beaten up by people. What happened to the culprits? Nothing! While we are writing this blog the new is coming on TV that the victim woman Mausumi Sarma is picked up by Minister Akon Bora, his son and some other youth congress youth. What does it mean? This clearly indicates that the case would be manipulated & ultimately nothing action will be taken to the culprits, because it is alleged that one journalist from one electronic news channel of Assam has been connected to this entire incident. The entire pre planned plot has been unearthed & proved by noted Assamese KMSS leader & team Anna core committee member Akhil Gogoi in a news conference last night on 14^th July. That new channel’s owner is none but Assam govt.’s health & education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Therefore, it is almost bound to happen that the entire case is going to be manipulated, the woman may say some different thing in near future & no person who is under the blessing of govt. or congress will be punished but some others will be victimized. Even if the police have good intentions to nab real convicts, they could not do anything against their lord’s evil intentions.

One simple question – for what reason the victim woman Mausumi Sarma was picked up by minister Akon Bora et al to an unknown place? The people of Assam already know the answer.
